About the project
Ironcliffe Road is a local collector road servicing local traffic, connecting local schools, sporting venues and local tourist destinations.
The project will be delivered as part of the Australian Government’s Remote Roads Upgrade Pilot program jointly funded by the Central Coast Council.
The section of road under consideration is approximately 8.6km in length on Ironcliffe Road and comprises of distinct sections of urban road and rural road, both sealed and unsealed.
The project will assess treatments in 3 sections of work based on a Road Safety Audit and Australian Road Assessment Program (AusRAP) Report undertaken in 2022:
Section 1: Lester Road to Sports Complex Avenue (Dial Park)
Section 2: Sports Complex Avenue to Gravel Section
Section 3: Gravel section to Dial Range Carpark (Mount Gnomon)
Construction will commence with the southernmost stage (Section 3 in the construction plans) and progress north through Section 2, and then Section 1.

Funding
This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Central Coast Council on an 80:20 basis.

Ironcliffe Road - Construction Engineering PlansThe project delivery team will contact all property owners impacted by the road upgrade. The actual works constructed, and resulting adjustments to boundaries may vary slightly to what is shown in the construction issue plans due to latent or unforeseen site conditions. Where boundary adjustments are required, consultation in advance will be held with the affected property owners.
Construction will be completed in approximately 500m lengths, and localised traffic management will be in place for the active construction zone.
NEXT STEPS
- Completion of final design (Section 3)
- Mobilisation to site and establishment of traffic management in August 2024
- Construction commencement late August / early September 2024, commencing from the south (Mount Gnomon)
- Widening of McBride Bridge to two lanes: investigations and design as an addition to the construction contract
- Projected completion of construction by December 2025
