Fire hazard abatement notices are issued annually in November/December on properties, primarily within built-up areas, where there is deemed to be a nuisance due to the growth of scrub, grass or weeds which is, or is likely to be, a fire hazard.
Such notices are posted to the registered property owner. Property owners are given a specified time in which to effect the removal of the nuisance or the General Manager may take direct action to abate the nuisance at the property owner’s expense.
Non-compliance with the abatement notice may result in the General Manager taking court action, whereby the court may impose a fine of up to $2,000.
