Freedom Camping - Permit System
Central Coast Council is introducing a new permit system for all Council-managed freedom camping sites.
The new system will help us maintain and improve facilities, protect the natural environment, and make sure sites are safe and fair for everyone.
This system is being rolled out progressively. Where new permit signage is in place on site, campers must obtain a permit and pay the applicable fee before staying.
Key details
- $15 per night, per site – reinvested into upgrades and maintenance
- First in, best dressed – no bookings required
- Maximum stay of 3 consecutive nights per site
- Self-contained vehicles only (no tents, no fires)
- Permits available by scanning the QR code on site or at the Ulverstone and Penguin Visitor Information Centres
Provisions, permits and penalties apply under the Caravans and Camping By-law.
Please always follow the instructions on the signs at the site you are visiting.
Where it applies
All Council-managed freedom camping sites (see below).
As the rollout continues, each site will move to the new permit system. If permit signage is displayed at a site, a permit is required.
