Land Use Planning in Central Coast

Our Planning team are here to help you and will do their best to make the process as easy as possible. As the Central Coast Council operates within the framework of the Tasmanian Planning Scheme, all our decisions must be consistent with this Scheme. Therefore, we need to balance the competing needs for development and expansion, with protecting the environment and ensuring everyone’s safety.

To help make things as easy as possible, we have gathered some helpful information on the Planning Process.

Land Use Planning Pre-Determination Mediation Policy

At its August 2025 meeting, Council adopted the Land Use Planning Pre-Determination Mediation Policy. The policy provides a clear process to help resolve planning disputes through mediation before a final decision is made, offering applicants, representors, and Council an opportunity to work towards fair and practical outcomes.

The approach is designed to reduce the stress and cost of appeals, support better development outcomes, and reflect Council’s ongoing commitment to improving planning processes.
