Ulverstone renamed ‘UlversTones+I’ as it welcomes artist to town

Ulverstone has a new name — at least for the week — with Mayor Cheryl Fuller, Cr Kate Wylie, and local campaigner Jyron Flannery declaring the town ‘UlversTones+I’ ahead of Tones and I’s upcoming performance at the Ulverstone Sound Shell.

The light-hearted move recognises the grassroots campaign led by Flannery, whose Tones & I Come to Ulverstone Tasmania Facebook page drew strong community support and helped bring the performance to the area.

The event is expected to be one of the largest to be held on the Central Coast.

Joined by volunteer town crier, Joseph Robertson, to mark the occasion, Mayor Fuller said the moment was about welcoming the artist and acknowledging the community effort behind it.

“This really started with the community,” Mayor Fuller said.

“To see that support turn into a performance here in Ulverstone is something worth recognising and having a bit of fun with along the way.”

Cr Kate Wylie said the ‘UlversTones+I’ concept was a simple way to mark the occasion and welcome visitors.

“It’s a great reflection of the energy behind this event and a chance for the whole town to get involved,” Cr Wylie said.

Flannery said the response to the campaign had exceeded expectations.

“It started as an idea, but the support just kept building. It’s been amazing to see how many people got behind it,” he said.

Tones and I will perform at the Ulverstone Sound Shell on Saturday 2 May 2026 from 5:00 pm.
