Lighting Up the Coast After Dark: Building a Thriving Night-Time Economy

Central Coast Council wants to hear from business owners, developers and anybody else with ideas on how the municipality could thrive after dark.

With more people looking for ways to enjoy the Central Coast in the evenings – from dining and events to safer, better-lit public spaces – Council is inviting the community to share ideas for a thriving night-time economy on the Coast.

The Night-Time Economy Forum will be held on Wednesday 19 November, from 5.30 – 8.30 pm at The Gnomon Pavilion, Ulverstone, bringing together leading voices in urban activation, tourism, and economic development.

Guest speakers include Katy Cooper, a certified futurist and Director of DISCO Consulting, with extensive experience in future strategy and community innovation, and Sally Bursell, Manager of Tourism and Events at Kiama Municipal Council (NSW), where she is leading work on a Night-Time Economy Strategy and trialling a Special Entertainment Precinct in the Kiama CBD.

Council’s Director of Strategic Growth, Daryl Connelly, said the forum is an opportunity to explore how the Central Coast can attract and retain younger residents, support local business, and create engaging spaces to enjoy after sunset.

“A lively and connected night-time economy doesn’t just boost local business – it helps attract skilled workers and makes our towns even better places to live and visit,” Mr Connelly said.

“We want to hear from people with ideas, experiences or aspirations for how our region can come alive at night.”

The forum will include short presentations followed by a collaborative workshop where participants can share ideas and identify opportunities for investment and innovation.

The event is free, but registrations are essential.
