Council Seeks Feedback on Changes to Dog Exercise Areas and Management

Central Coast Council is inviting the community to have their say on proposed changes to dog exercise areas and dog management, with consultation open from 22 September to 12 October 2025.

The draft policy sets out how dogs are managed in our community, and the proposed updates include changes to where dogs can and cannot be exercised, clearer processes for handling complaints, and stronger guidance on responsible ownership. The review is required under the Dog Control Act 2000 to ensure the policy remains up to date with legislation and community expectations.

“Dogs are an important part of many households, and this policy is about making sure everyone in our community can enjoy our shared spaces safely and fairly,” Director Strategic Growth Daryl Connelly said. “As we look at updating exercise areas and management practices, we want to hear from dog owners and non-dog owners alike, so the final policy reflects the right balance.”

Residents can explore the proposed changes using an interactive map feedback tool on Council’s new engagement platform My Central Coast. The map allows community members to view proposed exercise areas, provide comments directly on specific locations, and complete a short survey. Using this platform ensures all feedback can be reviewed consistently and effectively. If you need support to make a submission, please contact Council.

Council encourages all community members to take this opportunity to help shape how dogs are managed across the Central Coast for years to come.
