Council unveils draft plans to revitalise Reibey Street

Reibey Street – the heart of Ulverstone’s town centre – is set for a refresh, with draft concept designs now open for community input.

The concept designs propose safer crossings, greener and more attractive public spaces, and clearer links to key destinations. They also include options for Apex Park, outdoor dining, events, cycling facilities, parking and accessibility.

Mayor Cheryl Fuller said the release marked an important opportunity for locals to influence how the street will evolve.

“Reibey Street plays a central role in Ulverstone – it’s the place where people connect, meet friends, shop and do business. The draft concepts reflect what our community told us they value: safety, character and a welcoming place to spend time. Now we’d love to hear what the community thinks.”

Council Chief Executive Officer Vicki Brereton said the concept process was about testing ideas before committing to construction.

“This is not about rushing into works – it’s about making sure the final design is practical, accessible and good value for money. We particularly want to hear from people with mobility needs and carers to ensure the final design is genuinely inclusive.”

The project builds on feedback from engagement in 2019–20, including PlaceScore surveys and the Retail & Activity Centre Study, which highlighted the need for cleaner streets, greenery, safer crossings, more seating, heritage character and better public amenities.

Council has appointed Emerge Associates to prepare the designs, due for completion in January 2026.

Community members can view the draft concepts and complete a survey via Council’s engagement platform, My Central Coast (www.my.centralcoast.tas.gov.au/reibey-st), or attend a community input session at the Council Administration Centre, 19 King Edward Street, Ulverstone:

  • Tuesday 21 October, 4.00–8.00 pm
  • Wednesday 22 October, 1.00–5.00 pm

Paper copies of the survey will also be available from the Administration Centre. The survey will be open from Wednesday 8 October to Friday 7 November 2025.
