Council Calls on Candidates to Back Central Coast

With the State Election fast approaching, Central Coast Council is encouraging all political parties and candidates to commit to a fair share of investment for the region, including six priority projects and three existing State Budget commitments.

Council is seeking a recommitment from the Liberal Party and a commitment from other parties to honour previously announced funding for:

• The Ulverstone Waterfront Precinct Master Plan ($420,000),
• Dial Park redevelopment into a Category 4 AFL venue ($13.5 million), and
• Upgrades at East Ulverstone Recreation Ground ($80,000).

“These projects reflect the needs and aspirations of our community,” said Central Coast Deputy Mayor John Beswick. “We’re inviting candidates to get behind them and partner with us to deliver positive outcomes for the Coast.”

In addition, six key investment opportunities have been identified where State contributions would unlock significant local benefit:

1. Housing Affordability and Design Excellence Demonstration
A $1.5–$3 million commitment would support an affordable terrace housing demonstration project on Council-owned land, showcasing leading design, affordability, and sustainability principles.

2. Fairway Park Playground Upgrade
Council is seeking up to $1.2 million to deliver an upgraded play experience in Central Coast’s most visited park, with dinosaur-themed natural play elements and a toddler-friendly area.

3. EV Charging Infrastructure
A $100,000 contribution would enable fast-charging stations in Ulverstone and Penguin, supporting both local EV ownership and regional tourism.

4. School Crossing Relocation – Lovett Street
Safety improvements near a busy intersection would benefit students and families, with $50,000 needed to support a safer crossing location.

5. New Bus Shelter – Preservation Bay
Identified during housing planning work, a $20,000 shelter would improve access and comfort for current and future public transport users.

6. Volunteer Marine Rescue Facility Upgrade
Council is contributing $200,000 toward improvements, and seeks a $550,000 State investment to ensure timely access to a new, larger rescue vessel.

“These are practical, community-informed projects,” Deputy Mayor Beswick said. “They’re about showcasing innovative housing design, improving play spaces, boosting transport access, and strengthening emergency response. We know they’re worth investing in, and
we’re hoping our future representatives will agree.”

The investment prospectus is available to download below and outlines all nine projects in detail.

Council encourages all candidates to review the projects and discuss these opportunities directly with Council in the lead-up to the election.

“This is a great opportunity to invest in the Central Coast’s future, and we’re inviting all candidates to be part of that story,” said Deputy Mayor Beswick.
