Aged Persons Transport

Community Transport Service Tasmania Inc. provides ongoing support to the frail, aged, and individuals with disabilities in our community. Volunteers offer transportation assistance for medical appointments, shopping trips, and small group outings.

Volunteers help clients by transporting them to medical appointments, assistance with shopping and small group bookings for aged.

Ganesway

Located at 51-55 Queen Street, West Ulverstone, Ganesway provides independent living accommodation for up to 10 aged individuals. With bedsitting rooms featuring ensuite facilities and private entrances, residents enjoy a comfortable and secure living environment.

Contributions are based on 85% of the aged pension and rental assistance combined, covering food, accommodation, utilities, and housekeeping services. An entry fee is required for admission.

To be eligible for residency, applicants must:

  • Be on an aged or disability pension
  • Meet other specified criteria

Aged Person Home Units – Independent Living in the Central Coast

Central Coast Council provides 77 independent living units for older residents across the municipality — 52 in Ulverstone and 25 in Penguin. These units are designed for independent living and may not be suitable for individuals requiring higher-level aged care or support services, and are currently managed by Harcourts Ulverstone & Penguin.

 

*Please note – these units are no longer offered under the lifetime tenancy model.

Applications for Council’s Aged Persons Home Units are currently closed.

Due to the length of the existing waitlist and a review of the tenancy model, Council is no longer accepting new applications for these units.

 

About the Units

  • Located in Ulverstone and Penguin
  • Single-bedroom, ground-level brick units
  • Close to town centres and services
  • Some Ulverstone sites include garage options

 

*FOR EXISTING TENANTS*

Lifetime Tenancy Model (No longer offered)

Council’s Aged Persons Home Units were previously offered under a lifetime tenancy model, which is no longer available for new applicants.

Under this model:

  • Tenants paid an upfront premium (approx. 50% of market value)
  • A weekly service fee applied
  • If a tenancy ended early, a pro-rata refund was provided (generally 5% per year of occupancy)
  • After 20 years, no further premium was payable

Weekly fees contributed to:

  • Rates, water, and waste services
  • Building insurance
  • General maintenance (fair wear and tear)
  • Grounds upkeep
