Why do we need a Strategic Plan?

Each Tasmanian council is required to prepare a strategic plan for the municipal area, covering a period of 10 years. The Central Coast Council has developed its new Strategic Plan to define its vision and mission for the future, and strategic areas of focus – or themes – to help direct future actions and initiatives to meet its objectives for the community.

In late 2023, the Council released its first Term Plan, Our Place – Our Future: First Steps. Successive Term Plans are designed to translate the overarching themes of the Strategic Plan, as well as the vision and mission of your elected members, into priority actions for their 4-year term of office.

This new approach enables each elected Council to set a clear and attainable mission for its term, based on the current and future needs of the community. Term Plans consider themes from the 10-year Strategic Plan, while providing your elected representatives with greater agency and accountability.

What informed the Strategic Plan?

The 10-year Strategic Plan has considered feedback Council has received from the various round table discussions, community conversations and community consultations held over the last year. It also factors in some key findings from the recent Strategic Plan survey.

Our Place Our Future: The Strategic Plan represents Council’s overarching vision and direction for Tasmania’s Central Coast. We hope that the community will feel a sense of comfort, trust, excitement and pride from the strategic direction identified through the 10-year Strategic Plan.
