Economic Development

Building a Brighter Future for Central Coast

Economic development is the intentional practice of improving our community’s economic health, wellbeing, and quality of life — now and for future generations.

At Central Coast Council, this means implementing bold, evidence-based strategies that drive population growth, attract investment, expand housing supply, and enhance the liveability of our towns and natural places. We’re proud to be shaping a thriving, inclusive region that is fast becoming the crowning jewel of North-West Tasmania.

Strategic Growth in Action

Our Strategic Growth team is leading the delivery of a coordinated suite of economic policies and master plans, ensuring Central Coast is positioned for sustainable growth and economic resilience.

Already, Council has:

✅ Adopted the Population Growth Policy, focused on attracting a younger working-age population, supporting education, and lowering our median age by 8 years by 2053.

✅ Commissioned and applied findings from the Economic Baseline Study, which sets a data-driven foundation for planning and investment.

✅ Adopted the Central Coast Economic Development Strategy 2025–2035 and Beyond, a visionary roadmap for growth, innovation, and industry collaboration.

✅ Delivered Our Homes, Our Future – the Central Coast Strategic Housing Master Plan, a $1.7 million project that charts a bold path to meet our future housing needs.

Economic Development Strategy
