Ever thought about becoming a Councillor?

To nominate for election to Central Coast Council, you must generally:

• Be an elector for the Central Coast municipal area (either on the House of Assembly electoral roll or the Central Coast General Manager's Roll)
• Have your principal place of residence in Tasmania.

Some people are not eligible to nominate, including current employees of Central Coast Council (unless they resign before nominating) and persons otherwise disqualified under the legislation. The Tasmanian Electoral Commission’s (TEC) Candidate Handbook provides the full eligibility criteria and exclusions.

If you are enrolled to vote for the Tasmanian House of Assembly at an address within Central Coast, you are automatically eligible to vote and nominate - you do not need to apply for the General Manager's Roll.

The General Manager's Roll is intended for people who have a connection to the municipality but are not automatically enrolled, including:

• owners or occupiers of land in the municipality who live elsewhere;
• eligible non-Australian citizens who reside in the municipality; or
• the nominated representative of a company that owns or occupies land in the municipality.

Applications must be lodged before the close of rolls at 6.00 pm on Thursday 10 September 2026. Council administers the General Manager's Roll and can provide application forms and advice.

Nominations are managed by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission.

Prospective candidates should read the TEC’s candidate handbook and follow the official nomination process. Nominations open on Monday 7 September 2026 and close on Monday 21 September 2026.

Council can provide general information that is available to all candidates, but cannot prepare or review campaign material, provide campaign advice, manage candidate social media or assist in a way that could advantage one candidate over another.

Candidates are responsible for making sure their election signs meet all relevant requirements.

Council’s Electoral Signage Policy does not permit electoral advertising signage on Council-owned, controlled or managed land or buildings. Candidates should also ensure signs have property owner permission, are safely installed and maintained, do not obstruct road safety signage, and are removed within the required timeframe.
