Soak Up Summer at Hive: 5 Things You Won’t Want to Miss

Hive’s summer season brings together art, music and warm-weather vibes, from laid-back DJ sets in the Celestial Gardens to new exhibitions, planetarium journeys and a full holiday lineup. It’s an easy place to settle in and enjoy the best of the season.

Hive Sun Sets in the Celestial Gardens

Three summer evenings will see the Celestial Gardens transformed as live DJ’s create a relaxed pop-up listening experience inspired by albums chosen by the artists of Parallel Practice. With Seventy Acres running an evening bar, Empire Eats serving pastries and the lawns set for casual games, it’s an effortless way to wind down the week with friends. Hive Sunsets will be held on 12 December, 23 January and 6 February.

Explore the New Exhibition: Parallel Practice

Opening on Sunday 14 December at 1.00 pm, Parallel Practice brings together 18 Tasmanian artists in nine creative pairings who have opened their studios and shared insights into one another’s work. The exhibition offers an intimate, generous look at the evolving conversations and connections between their practices. The launch is free to attend, with RSVP essential.

Take a Spin on the Upgraded Derby Track

From Saturday 12 December, the refreshed Derby Track is ready for action. Build a car, race a friend, test your timing and rediscover one of Hive’s most loved hands-on activities — now better than ever.

Journey Through Space in the Planetarium

January offers a cool retreat beneath the planetarium dome, with shows running from 5 January to 4 February. Morning sessions at 11.00 am cater for all ages, while afternoon sessions at 2.00 pm introduce deeper space themes for ages five and over. It’s an ideal way to slow the pace, escape the heat and lose yourself among the stars.

Get Curious in the Summer Holiday Program

Hive’s January program is filled with workshops, activities and opportunities to experiment and create, including a Scientist in Residence from 21 January and a lively electricity show. It’s a dynamic mix designed to keep curious minds busy right through the holiday break.
