Central Coast Council is pleased to announce the arrival of a new Recycle Rewards Reverse Vending Machine in Ulverstone, offering residents a convenient new way to recycle eligible drink containers while supporting local community groups.
Located at Railway IGA, the new machine is part of Tasmania’s statewide container refund scheme and was delivered by Recycle Rewards and TOMRA Cleanaway in partnership with Central Coast Council. The initiative provides a 10 cent refund for every eligible drink container returned — with the option to either keep the refund or donate it to a registered local group.
Mayor Cheryl Fuller said the new refund point was a welcome addition to the community.
“Our community punches well above its weight when it comes to responsible waste management, and it’s exciting to see a new opportunity for easy and convenient recycling that benefits the environment, supports community groups, and creates opportunities for job seekers,” Mayor Fuller said.
Groups like the Ulverstone Scouts are already signed up as donation partners, giving residents the chance to put their refunds to work supporting valuable local programs.
Tasmanians have embraced the Recycle Rewards program since its launch on 1 May 2025, with more than 7 million containers already returned. The northwest region has led the charge, with Devonport currently the busiest refund point in the state.
With over 40 refund points across Tasmania — including on King and Flinders Islands — more than 85% of Tasmanians now have access to a Recycle Rewards location within 10km of their home. The new Ulverstone site brings this convenience directly to our region and strengthens Central Coast’s contribution to Tasmania’s circular economy.
