The Our Homes – Our Future: Your Feedback project page is now located on our new engagement platform – My Central Coast.
In October and November 2024, we asked what you wanted to see for your future home, and how you wanted to see Central Coast grow into the future to help inform Our Homes – Our Future.
Thank you to everyone who participated – we received a huge response of 589 contributions.
Since then, we have been working to prepare the draft Housing Strategy and draft Structure Plans that will make up Our Homes – Our Future, and these will be released for consultation soon.
Ahead of their release, we wanted to share some of the key findings that we heard from you:
- Central Coast residents love where they live, particularly the strong sense of community, coastal lifestyle, and scenic landscapes.
- Housing is currently made up primarily of single dwelling homes, and there will be an ongoing need and desire for well-located single dwelling homes across Central Coast into the future.
- Respondents also observed that there is a need for more diverse housing options in Central Coast to better meet the range of housing needs that residents have. This includes:
- Smaller, well-located, low-maintenance homes, particularly for residents as they age.
- Accommodation for seasonal workers, to support the substantial workforce increase in the harvest season.
- Housing for people with disabilities, including for people with a disability to live independently.
- More affordable options for low-income earners, and starter homes for young families.
- Rental housing stock at a range of price points, with very limited availability in the rental market currently.
- Residents are seeking a balanced approach to accommodating sustainable growth, including sensitive change in established areas and ensuring valued agricultural land is not impacted.
- A key concern for respondents was how sustainable growth would be delivered in a way that improves, and not compromises, what they love about living in Central Coast.
We are excited to share with you the draft vision and plans for how Central Coast can grow sustainably in the future, supporting our unique lifestyle and future prosperity.
The draft Housing Strategy and draft Structure Plans will be released for consultation in mid-March. Background reports – including the Consultation Outcomes Report – will also be available.
Keep an eye out for more information in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can book your spot in the consultation events at the link below.
