A powerful exhibition exploring healthy masculinity, connection and community is now showing at Hive.
Men with Heart, by award-winning photographer Paul Hoelen in partnership with TasMen, is on display in the Hive Art Gallery until 26 July.
Shot in complete confidentiality over more than two decades, this moving and intimate multi-media exhibition explores what defines and challenges healthy masculinity in Australian culture today.
The exhibition has won multiple awards for its impact and invites visitors to do more than view the works. Through its interactive and community-focused approach, people are encouraged to reflect, respond and contribute their own thoughts and experiences.
The exhibition also coincides with Men’s Health Week, running from 15–21 June, providing an important opportunity to encourage conversations about men’s mental health, wellbeing, relationships and connection.
A number of free community events will be held as part of the exhibition, including Heart Circles hosted by TasMen on Thursday 18 June and Thursday 16 July from 3pm to 5pm. These sessions provide safe and supportive spaces for people to share and reflect.
Paul Hoelen will also present an artist talk on Saturday 20 June at 11am, focusing on documentary photography and the art of community storytelling. This will be followed by a Men’s Week panel discussion at 1pm, exploring what it means to be a man in contemporary Australian culture and the role men play as fathers, brothers, partners and sons.
Men with Heart offers an important counterbalance to many of the negative narratives surrounding men, instead highlighting openness, courage, accountability and community connection.
The Hive Art Gallery is open 10am to 4pm, seven days a week during the exhibition period.
