Join the Central Coast Access and Inclusion Working Group

Passionate about building a more inclusive community? The Central Coast Council is seeking expressions of interest for its Access and Inclusion Working Group.

About the Working Group

The Central Coast Council (the Council) committed to the development and implementation of a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (the Plan) as part of its 2021–22 Annual Plan. “Access and inclusion” is one of six priority areas identified in the National Disability Strategy (NDS):

  1. Inclusive and accessible communities
  2. Rights protection, justice and legislation
  3. Economic security
  4. Personal and community support
  5. Learning and skills
  6. Health and wellbeing

The first version of the Plan was finalised in August 2022, and included a recommendation that an Access and Inclusion Working Group be established to oversee its implementation.

This is distinct from the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan Working Group that was established under a different Terms of Reference, to oversee development of the Plan. As well as providing input into Annual Plan and Budget development, the Working Group assists Council staff with monitoring progress against the indicators referred to in Plan. The Working Group will meet 2–4 times per year, including at least one meeting ahead of Annual Plan and Budget development (around March), and one mid-year Progress Review (around December). More detail on the Committee’s role and purpose is provided in the Terms of Reference.

Meeting Schedule

The Committee meets quarterly – February, May, August and November. Meeting dates are sent out at the end of each year to allow Committee Members to plan ahead. Meetings take place in the Council Chamber at the Council’s administration Centre, 19 King Edward Street, Ulverstone from 10am-12pm. Although attendance in person is encouraged, Committee Members may attend virtually if required.

Who We’re Looking For

The Central Coast Council is committed to ensuring that our community is inclusive and accessible for all. To support this vision, we are seeking passionate individuals to join our Access and Inclusion Working Group.

We are particularly looking for representatives who have lived experience with accessibility needs not currently represented on the committee. While we already have representation from individuals and carers with experience of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), wheelchair users, multiple sclerosis and amputees, we are eager to broaden our perspectives. We strongly encourage applications from individuals with lived experience of hearing impairments, vision impairments, or other accessibility needs to help us better understand and address the diverse challenges faced by our community. As a member of the Working Group, you will play a vital role in shaping and implementing strategies that promote inclusion and accessibility across Central Coast Council’s programs, services, and facilities.

If you are passionate about making a difference and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone in our community, we’d love to hear from you.
