NAIDOC Week is a national week of events, reflection and celebration recognising the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Held nationally from 5 to 12 July, this year’s theme, 50 Years of Deadly, marks five decades of NAIDOC week celebrations, recognising the Elders, organisers, artists, leaders, and communities who have contributed to the movement and highlighting the resilience, survival, and cultural strength of First Nations peoples.

Take a walk through the Kokonnengar Cultural Precinct
Join local Aboriginal steward of Country Lyndon O’Neil for a guided walk through the Kokonnengar Cultural Precinct in Bicentennial Park, Ulverstone.
Set within one of Ulverstone’s most familiar public spaces, this free community walk will explore the stories, science and biocultural knowledge connected to the landscape and the ongoing care of Country.
This ticketed will be held on Sunday 5 July from 11am to 12pm, meeting at Otto’s Grotto. Book your place today.
Step inside an immersive planetarium experience
Hive’s planetarium in Ulverstone will host takila milaythina-ti – Heart in Country, an immersive fulldome experience created by Dave mangenner Gough and Darryl Rogers, with music by Ian Chia.
Through stunning visuals, storytelling and music, the film takes audiences through the rhythms of life on Country, including sunrise, fire, hunting, gathering, storytelling, ceremony and rest.
Screenings will run from 7 to 11 July and are suitable for ages five and over.
See Country through photography
Visit Bioculture by AV, a photographic exhibition exploring the connection between biodiversity, cultural knowledge and Country.
Displayed on the ground floor at Hive, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on people, place and ecosystems, and the relationships that continue to shape and sustain Country.
Bioculture is on display until 26 July.
