Central Coast Council will soon begin trialling new technology designed to support fairer, safer and more efficient parking management across the municipality.
The system, known as Aero Ranger, uses vehicle-mounted cameras to help parking officers monitor time-limited parking spaces as they patrol streets and car parks. It works as a digital version of the traditional “chalk mark”, recording number plates, locations and times so officers can see how long vehicles have been parked and review this information when enforcing parking rules.
The technology helps modernise a largely manual process by automatically recording this information, reducing paperwork and administration and allowing parking officers to spend more time on patrol and engaging with the community.
Importantly, the trial does not change any parking rules and does not introduce paid parking in the Central Coast.
In other councils, similar technology has also helped identify unclear signage or common parking mistakes, allowing councils to improve signage and community education.
