The Big Penguin has been given a starring role in Australia Post’s latest national campaign celebrating Australia’s “Big Things.”
Australia Post, in partnership with the Royal Australian Mint, has released a new $1 coin and stamp collection featuring ten of Australia’s most iconic roadside landmarks – and our own Big Penguin is among them.
This recognition comes at a special time for our community, as we celebrate 150 years of Penguin township and 50 years of the Big Penguin, which was recently added to the Tasmanian Heritage Register. For generations, the Big Penguin has stood as a symbol of pride for locals and a must-see stop for visitors.
To mark the occasion, Council has launched a Big Penguin Children’s Art Competition. Primary-aged children can upload drawings, paintings, digital art or photos of 3D creations through My Central Coast for their chance to win a Big Things prize pack. Two winners (ages 5–7 and 8–10) will be selected by the Mayor.
You can pick up the new Big Penguin coin and stamp collection now at your local Post Office – and if you’ve got kids, encourage them to get creative and enter the competition!
