The Australian Government will test AusAlert, a new national warning system, across Australia on Monday 27 July 2026.
AusAlert is designed to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices during disasters such as bushfires, severe weather and public health emergencies.
The system is expected to be ready for use from October 2026. Before then, it needs to be tested so Australians know what an AusAlert looks and sounds like.
During the national test, compatible mobile devices in Tasmania, including mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert at around 2.00pm AEST on Monday 27 July 2026.
If your device is turned on, the test alert may:
• make your device vibrate
• play a loud siren-like sound for about 10 seconds
• turn the screen on automatically.
This may happen even if the volume is turned down, or your device is on silent or do not disturb.
As this is only a test, you do not need to take any action if you receive the alert.
However, AusAlert messages could make hidden safety devices easier to find. If receiving the test alert could disrupt you, or cause you or someone you know to feel unsafe, visit ausalert.gov.au for advice on how to prepare before the test.
