There is an exciting opportunity for aspiring or established artists to feature their work at Hive Tasmania, located in Ulverstone.

As the region’s first cultural precinct, Hive was inspired by the concept of a beehive. It serves as both a community hub and a drawcard destination for visitors to the region.

Hive is now seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from individual artists, artist groups, curators, or community groups to feature their work in the Gallery from 2025 to 2026. It is also seeking EOIs for the Ground Floor Circulation Space.

EOIs open Friday, 15 March 2024, and will be accepted up until close of business Monday, 22 April 2024.

“I am thrilled to announce the opening of the Expression of Interest period for the Hive Art Gallery Exhibition Program.” Said Mayor Cheryl Fuller

“With 32,177 people visiting Hive during the 2022/2023 financial year, this is a fantastic opportunity for artists and curators to bring their innovative visions to life, all while contributing to the cultural vibrancy of our region.”  She said.

Hive usually features one EOI in the Gallery per year. However, occasionally, there might be more than one opportunity. In this case, artists are usually drawn from existing EOIs submitted during the programming period.

“We look forward to seeing the exciting proposals that emerge from this call out and the impact they will have on our cultural landscape.” – Said Mayor Cheryl Fuller.

Submissions can cover a variety of work including interactive, installation or digital art. Expressions of interest are also welcome from people who do not have a full body of work, as they can be brought together with other artists to create a joint exhibition.

The Exhibitions Committee will commence the selection process from Friday, 14 June 2024. Successful EOIs will be notified by 5 July 2024.

Full details on how to submit an EOI are available in the Information Pack below:

Public Land Disposal

At the Council meeting held on Monday, 18 March 2024, it was resolved to commence the statutory process to dispose of some vacant Public Land parcels owned by the community.

As community needs are dynamic and can change over time, our council must always be vigilant in ensuring it is getting the best value from our money — it is the community’s money, after all. As such, we need to approach managing community-owned assets with extra care and consideration by ensuring money is well spent and meets the community’s needs.

As part of our asset management activities, we are reviewing the vacant land portfolio.  Stage 1 of the review has identified six parcels that aren’t considered to provide community benefit to justify continued Council ownership.

Parcels Council is considering disposing of

Stage 1 of Council’s vacant land review has identified that the following parcels are not required for future local open spaces:

Our team has assessed each parcel of vacant land, considering its location, strategic importance, maintenance costs, natural and cultural values, planning requirements and impacts on demand for open space.

Open space is considered to be well distributed throughout the municipal area, with most areas within 400m of where people live. However, some areas could be better serviced.  Any proceeds from the disposal of these parcels of land will help us achieve consistency across the municipal area and can be used to improve other open spaces, such as renewing and upgrading playground equipment.

There are also maintenance costs involved in holding onto assets such as land.

COMMUNITY FEEDBACK ON COUNCIL’S INTENTION TO DISPOSE OF PUBLIC LAND.

It is difficult to know the true value of the land to the surrounding community without a consultation process. The community’s views are an essential part of the decision-making process. Therefore, Council will carefully consider all feedback before making a decision.

If you wish to provide feedback, please submit this to Council before 4.00pm, Friday 26 April 2024.

The time period has been extended for those wishing to submit feedback on Ashwater Crescent, Penguin. The community will now have until 4:00pm, 3 May 2024, to make a submission.

You may provide feedback through either of the following methods.

Written Submission

If you wish to provide a written submission, you can either drop this into the Council Administration Centre, or post it to:

Central Coast Council,

PO Box 220, Ulverstone,

TAS, 7315

Please reference ‘Submission to Public Land Disposal’.

Email

If you wish to email your submission, please send this to: admin@centralcoast.tas.gov.au and include ‘Submission to Public Land Disposal’ in the subject line.

If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback, please contact Samantha Searle on samantha.searle@centralcoast.tas.gov.au or email admin@centralcoast.tas.gov.au.

What’s next in the process?

The statutory land disposal process is the first step of several before the land can be disposed of. The outcome of the public land disposal process will inform the Council’s decision of whether to dispose of the land or not.

.

17 Richardson Street, West Ulverstone PID 1748408

Stage 1 of Council’s vacant land review identified this parcel of land as not required for future local open space requirements.

The Richardson Street Reserve comprises two titles zoned General Residential that are encircled by Richardson Street.  The eastern title (PID 6971991) is encumbered by a sewer main, which limits the site’s development potential. PID 1748408 is approximately 1,060m2.  It is recommended that PID 1748408 be considered for disposal.

Ashwater Crescent, Penguin, PID 6765135 (Partial Disposal)

Stage 1 of Council’s vacant land review identified this parcel of land as not required for future local open space requirements.

It is too large for a local open space (6,612m2). However, it is recommended that part of the land be retained for public open space, with the intention of maintaining the playground.

The land is zoned General Residential; however, previous decision-making has limited the council’s potential to subdivide the site because of the narrow access strip. If a decision were made to dispose of this land, the Council could explore opportunities to develop the site for housing in collaboration with adjoining property owners (this includes the state government).

5-7 Travers Place, Ulverstone, PID 6952395

Stage 1 of Council’s vacant land review identified this parcel of land as not required for future local open space requirements.

This land has an area of 1,452m2.  There is an existing swing located on the site.  The large parcel could be subdivided into two lots, with the existing one piece of playground equipment relocated to one of the lots.  This remaining reserve would still be within the Council’s open space service level for local open space.

2 Fairway Drive Penguin, PID 1660932

Stage 1 of Council’s vacant land review identified this parcel of land as not required for future local open space requirements.

This is a vacant lot of approximately 1,437m2. It is located close to the Penguin Golf Club and is zoned General Residential.

Mission Hill Road, Penguin, PID 7669794

Stage 1 of Council’s vacant land review identified this parcel of land as not required for future local open space requirements.

It is zoned General Residential and is a sub-minimal lot within the zone at 210m2.  The lot is not large enough for development on its own. However, it would make sense to sell the property to the adjoining property owner, who has expressed an interest in the land.
